Professor Alex Anstey FRCP, MD

Professor Alex Anstey has worked as a Consultant Dermatologist for Aneurin Bevan Local Health Board in Newport, Gwent, South Wales since 1995. He sees patients with the full range of skin disorders. He has particular expertise in the management of difficult psoriasis and eczema including the optimum use of ultraviolet therapies.

Professor Anstey is an acknowledged international expert in phototherapy and is Director of the Academic Dermatology Unit in Newport, South Wales. He has developed new treatments for skin diseases and is co-author of a number of national guidelines of care. Professor Anstey is head of the regional photodermatology Unit in Cardiff, South Wales and receives referrals from dermatologists in Wales and South West England for the diagnosis and management of photosensitivity disorders.

“The provision of UV light therapy services in the NHS is currently inadequate and many more phototherapy units are needed to serve the whole population. In response to this need The Clear Skin Dermatology Treatment Clinic was set up 5 years ago in order to provide a top quality phototherapy service for private patients suffering from chronic skin disease such as psoriasis, eczema and vitiligo. I strongly believe that patients who require phototherapy should be treated without delay in a convenient and accessible facility by expert specialist staff”

Professor Ansteys’ motivation for participating in this business was to raise funds to support Dermatology research and education; all of his annual profit share is donated to the Academic Dermatology Unit at St Woolos Hospital, Newport, Gwent.
