Acne can cause great distress and have an adverse effect on a person’s quality of life and self-esteem.

Acne is a chronic skin condition that affects most people at some point during their life. It causes spots to develop on the skin, usually on the face, back and chest. The symptoms of acne can be mild, moderate or severe.

Acne Symptoms

The symptoms of acne usually disappear when a person is in their twenties. However, in some cases, acne can continue into adult life, with approximately 5% of women and 1% of men over 25 continuing to experience symptoms. For some people, even mild cases of acne can cause distress. Therefore, if your acne is making you feel very unhappy, you should visit your GP or contact us for an appointment.

If you develop nodules (large hard lumps that build up beneath the surface of the skin and are usually painful)  or cysts (large, pus-filled lumps that look similar to boils), these are usually associated with severe acne which may require a course of Roaacutance (Isotretinoin).

Treatments

Your recommended treatment plan will depend on whether your acne is mild, moderate or severe. Mild acne is treated using gels or creams (topical treatments). More severe cases may be  prescribed a course of Roaccutane (Isotretinoin).

The Clear Skin Dermatology Treatment Clinic has an special acne clinic for  patients suffering with acne.

The specialist dermatology nurse explains exactly what to expect during the course of treatment and provide expert advice, help and support throughout.  Phototherapy is now becoming more common in the treatment of Acne as well as being used to treat several other skin conditions including: acne and psoriasis.
